Although I was arrested and hauled into the pokey many moons ago all was forgiven and charges were dropped when I wouldn't submit to a lesser charge. It was all a misunderstanding and before the Honerable Judge Jim Pouros was elected to the bench he did a great job of representing me. And most Sheriff's except for a few have always in my opinion shown respect to the average citizen. Unfortunately there is always one in every croud.
I was going north bound on County P and Deputy Kohn was going south bound (driving, he was not parked doing radar). As soon as he passed me, he stopped, turned around, and got behind me. No problem, but, a pretty good clue that I was going to be stopped. I was. He walks up to my truck asking me if I'm from around there, where I was coming from, if the truck is registered to me, etc. The questions seemed a little invasive and irrelevant, but, perhaps that's normal procedure. He also asked how fast I was going. I asked him to tell me, in which he responds, "64mph". There wasn't a chance in hell I was going 64. I asked him if he clocked it and he said yes. I asked to see it, he said it was against procedure to do so and that I couldn't. Nobody likes to be lied to, and especially not from someone in a position of power. I give him my license and insurance,(wanting to move the process along, I was very angry that he looked me right in the eye and lied to me) he asks for my full middle name and my phone number. I give it to him. He walks back to his squad and comes back a couple minutes later. He hands me a piece of paper and says, "I'm only giving you a written warning even though I didn't appreciate your attitude earlier". You ALLEGEDLY have me clocked going 19mph over the speed limit and you give me a WARNING after a failed attempt at trying to get me to admit fault, on top of my bad attitude?! I'd be a perfect candidate to receive a ticket under those circumstances, one would think. I explained to him that my attitude is because he lied to me. He then says, "I'm not lying and I know you were at least going faster than 55mph..." I guess that was his way of admitting he couldn't prove I was going 64, knew it, and tried backtracking. My written warning says "TRAFFIC- EXCEEDING SPEED ZONES, ETC. (11-15 MPH)".... odd considering I was allegedly going 19 over and it can be "proved".
Qualified applicant for a civil service job denied opportunity and informed that I missed the deadline. However, the tracking number on the postage indicated that the application was received a full business week prior to the deadline. Organization possibly still operating as if were 1619...
I have nothing but respect for police officers/deputies. I have several friends that work in law enforcement. I argue with people who say "f*** the police, cops are pigs" etc. because I understand they have a tough job to do and are there for us when we need them. I don't think expecting someone in uniform to not lie to you is asking too much. It's unfortunate that I now understand personally why so many people are sour towards law enforcement. Beware if you're pulled over by Deputy Kohn!
I was pulled over this afternoon in Jackson by Deputy T. Kohn. I want to prefix this by saying I am a black woman, and I DO NOT believe I was pulled over because of my color. Although this was an unpleasant experience, it was not race driven.
